About the position

 

Reporting to the Trade Compliance Manager, the Customs Compliance Specialist will act as an expert in trade regulations and customs compliance and assist with trade activities to import and export shipments. The Customs Compliance Specialist is responsible for the compliant, efficient and timely processing of import and export shipments.

 

What you’ll do:

 

  • Review and audit Free Trade Agreement certificates.
  • Apply customs knowledge to assign classification codes and country of origin to new materials based on the latest rules and regulations.
  • Reviews current material classifications to validate and ensure compliance with all governmental agencies
  • Review customs data including customs valuation and provide insights to the business.
  • Work with CA Tariff codes (HTS), assign and review for accuracy
  • Responsible for record keeping following CA Customs and Univar Solutions company policies
  • Work with other internal compliance groups to keep product moving into and across Canada
  • Help prepare international documents for the daily international shipments and consolidations as needed by business conditions
  • Work with import brokers on correct processes, update SOP's and attend meetings with all parties involved
  • Serve as an internal resource for information requests in regards to import/export compliance
  • Undertake other duties and projects as required

 

What we would like from you:

 

  • Canadian CCS Certification preferred 
  • CTCS certification would be a strong asset,
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience importing products, preferably chemical products
  • Experience with Canadian HS Classification
  • Must be detail-oriented and pay close attention to accuracy
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask
  • Must have strong computer skills using Microsoft office suite including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • A University Degree or College Diploma in a related field (such as: supply chain/logistics, international trade or economics) would be considered an asset.
  • Bilingual in French and English is considered an asset
  • Location:  Hybrid position located in Weston, Guelph or Calgary

The salary range for this position is $70,000  - $95,000. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
