Yard Specialist
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
MiniBulk Yard Specialist is responsible for ordering MiniBulk tanks, telemetry & fittings, installing fittings on MiniBulk tanks, transporting and installing MiniBulk tanks at customer locations, loading/unloading MiniBulk and Bulk corrosive chemicals and performing routine maintenance in UNIVAR branch location in the safest and most efficient manner. Yard Specialist will report to the Branch Operation Supervisor.
- Reading and being familiar with all Company policies and procedures as detailed in the Employee Handbook, and Operations Manual.
- Taking pride in our Company and doing everything possible to help maintain our goals in Safety, Service, and Profitability.
- Reporting and designated to work on time, and accurately inputting time worked and meal periods into time and attendance system.
- Wearing a uniform daily and maintaining a clean and professional appearance.
- Wearing all required safety gear and personal protective equipment, including a full face respirator when required, during all handling of chemicals.
- Driving in a safe and responsible manner and following all DOT rules and regulations - as applicable.
- Mixing blends and performance products in tanks following blend sheet instructions and testing/preparing for shipment
- Conduct lab quality control tests and maintain accurate records
- Loading trucks with proper materials (and concentrations) to be delivered as dispatched, and insuring all paperwork complies with Company and DOT policies and regulations.
- Safe offloading or loading of railcar product and preparing all empty railcars for transport per FRA and
D.O.T regulations.
- Monitoring tank or tanker levels and status while transferring chemical to storage or trailers.
- Recording and reporting inventory of materials coming in and out UNIVAR yards
- Plumbing and assembly of Minibulk customer tanks
- Management of the neutralization yard drainage and treatment system with Waste Water Minimization mindset.
- Will require annual training in Hazardous waste management - documentation and procedure to comply with DTSC requirements of proper handling Hazardous Waste.
- Maintenance, repair and installation of yard equipment, UNIVAR trailers and process tanks, pumps and piping as required.
- Reporting all spills immediately to the Yard Supervisor or Operations Manager. Cleaning up any spill, however minor according to UNIVAR policy.
- Reporting all defects in equipment including tractor, trailer, customer tanks, rail cars, storage vessels and any yard assets. Usage of proper forms, to insure there is a written record so corrective action can be taken.
- Working any overtime, if required.
- Coordinating loading times with the Bulk Dispatcher regarding the next day's deliveries to best serve our customers.
- Perform end of shift proper shutdown, valve locking and site security. Signing/submitting formal checklist of shutdown inspection items.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Demonstrate the ability to work with corrosive chemicals.

- Agree to fully cooperate with the training program for chemical handling and safety.

- Must be able to meet all the requirements for respirator certification including any medical certifications and yearly re-certification with fit testing per OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.134
- Agree to train to the OSHA Hazmat Emergency Responder Technician certification level and maintain annual certification.
- Agree to a minimum 2 year probation period to establish the job as being right for both the trainee and the company's best interest and welfare.
- Take a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Proficiency repairing mechanical equipment, pumps, plumbing and/or pipefitting as well as minor structural work.
- Mechanical aptitude and inclination required. Trailer repair experience desirable.
- Able to work with computers and plant electronic devices
- Certified PA Tank Installer certification preferred
- High school diploma
- Class A driver's license with HAZMAT credentials not a must, but preferred
