Job Summary:
The Global Supplier Director’s role is to lead the product marketing management group globally for the Pharmaceutical Ingredients business vertical. The role is ultimately responsible for delivering profitable growth both organically, expanding our product portfolio and by increasing the share of our supplier business moving through distribution. The Product Marketing/Product Management team serves as a conduit between supplier partners and the sales organization, driving activities within Univar Solutions which meet the needs of our business while advancing the interest and purchased volumes of our supplier partners. The Pharmaceutical Ingredients Global Product Marketing Director will be responsible for aligning our suppliers and our four main product categories: API’s, Functional Excipients, Commodity Excipients and Solvents to the Univar Solutions 5-year strategic growth plan. The Global Director of Product of Health and Nutrition oversees this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enable achievement of AOP financial goals for the Pharmaceutical Ingredients organization including sustainable, profitable growth through a culture of accountability, performance and partnership with Sales. Key to this role will be increased market share via geographical expansion of existing product lines as well as adding new suppliers and new product lines to the business vertical.
- Drive date-based analyses and support the development of strategies to different target customers and segments, assist in reducing churn, increase share of wallet and increase opportunity pipeline flow through.
- Help the VP, Product Marketing Management (PMM) team and Head of Sales in each region, build and maintain trusted partnerships with key suppliers and the focused industries vertical through building rapport, learning suppliers’ organization and people, products, financial situation, opportunities, requirements, culture and methods of doing business. Help the team develop actionable plans as needed to support the supplier and Univar Solutions.
- Build the highest performing and most technically strong product management team in the specialty distribution industry. Hire and develop talent, coach objectively for performance and skill development, provide candid feedback, ensure the right people are in the right roles and leverage the standard methodologies across the globe for business success and the best collaboration with the sales team.
- Build a culture of leadership in the PMM organization to assist Sales in being successful in the field, implementing our supplier strategies throughout the organization and driving a culture of Project-Driven Growth.
- Leading supplier expansion opportunities across the globe that are aligned to the pharmaceutical and health & nutrition strategies.
- Support confidential projects for Mergers & Acquisitions for the pharmaceutical business that align with the strategies of the global ingredients & specialties business.
- Drive the cross-functional and cross-organizational collaboration within the vertical (Sales, Marketing, Technical, Digital & Operations) to ensure the commercial strategy and execution is maintained.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- May lead Product Managers who complete the tactical details and implementation of all duties and responsibilities
- Coaching Product Managers to elevate interaction and engagement with supplier partners
Education/Experience/Training Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related fields from a fully accredited four-year institution, or equivalent experience. MBA preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant industry experience in technical sales, product management, and leadership is needed. This includes proven leadership and demonstrated success in a specialty business, getting results through clear articulation of goals, execution on key behaviors, and accountability. Distribution experience strongly desired.
- Superior presentation and communication skills required.
- Ability to establish strong working relationships and persuade/influence others.
- Ability to negotiate and defend pricing, contracts, and agreements with suppliers and customers in a mutually beneficial manner while maintaining professionalism and achieving goals.
- Ability to travel 50+%. Significant global travel necessary, often 1+ weeks in duration.
- Clear market expertise and credibility in the Pharmaceutical Ingredients focused industry business segments, including customers, suppliers, products, applications, technology, pricing, value; industry or market problems and opportunities. Global experience important.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and ability to grasp the consequences of decisions.
- Must possess high discernment and analytical skills with capability to drive a P&L, as well as key cash flow decisions and performance. This includes an ability to think in terms of the Univar Solutions enterprise and drive actions which are beneficial to the business as a whole.
- Ability to understand, edit, evaluate and collaborate on legal agreements with confidence and credibility.
- Ability to work across functions and boundaries to influence and find mutually beneficial outcomes for the business; can maneuver through complex situations with tact and anticipates sensitive issues and adjusts accordingly.
- Projects a professional and positive image both inside and outside of the company.
- Experience with managing a commercially/supplier driven business unit globally.
