The Senior Procurement Manager will be responsible for executing and maintaining railcar initiatives that meet corporate and regional supply chain objectives. This role will be instrumental in collaborating with the Materials Organization, Product Management and Transportation to coordinate efforts and ensure success.
The Senior Procurement Manager will be responsible for leading improvement and cost reduction activities, monitor and improve asset utilization and reporting while providing the daily execution in product movement through the supply chain.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Deliver rail subject matter expertise Manage commercial rail procurement activities, including railcar leasing sourcing, pricing, negotiation and contracting.
- Manage railcar fleet operations, including budgeting, fleet sizing, acquisition, deployment, utilization, maintenance, package design and compliance.
- Manage 3rd party contractors, including full-service lessors, 3PL logistics, maintenance & parts vendors, engineering and compliance consultants.
- Act as the Organization’s Subject Matter Expert in all aspects of the rail industry.
- Provide leadership in day-to-day railcar interactions with Product Managers, Commercial leaders, railroads, procurement teams, and Railroad administrators.
- Manage railcar due diligence in commercial acquisitions and Business Development projects.
- Represent Univar’s interest within industry groups and trade associations, i.e. Association of American Railroads, American Assn of Rail Shippers and The Chlorine Institute.
Problem Solving:
- Participate, develop and analyze most cost-effective solutions to provide the lowest Total Cost to Serve.
- Evaluate and recommend methods to provide lowest -cost to serve. Internal/external audit
- Compile information requested by internal and external auditors, including financial reports, reconciliations, and support for sample testing.
- Projects / process improvement, Product Management, and New Business development
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- 10+ years’ experience
- bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Strong working knowledge of shipper railcar fleet management and hazmat railcar and package design.
- Strong working knowledge of the railcar repair network, rules, practices and procedures, including OTMA, DDCT, UMLER and AAR Field Manual.
- Proficient using PC based packages such as Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical skills and presentation/recommendation skills to review rail operating practices and recommend improvements.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle diverse and significant workload.
- Operating knowledge of railroad communications interfaces, including pattern maintenance, billing, and diversion processes.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with all levels within the organization. Must be able to use tact, understanding and initiative problem solving.
- Prefer thorough knowledge of Railtrac rail management software systems, and familiarity with company accounting policies.
- Good analytical skills and problem-solving ability based on qualitative analysis and real-world experience.
