At ChemPoint, the success of our unique Operations process depends on continuously strengthening our business relationships.  The Supplier Development Manager establishes and executes plans to advance strategic supplier relationships, develops product line opportunities and identifies/supports other activities to expand ChemPoint’s business.


  • Manages a select number of currently untapped supplier partners to increase ChemPoint’s visibility and presence within the target organization.  Desired result is the establishment of ChemPoint as a preferred strategic distribution partner that results in increased consideration for the distribution of products across multiple divisions of the supplier. Key tasks are as follows:
    • Maps decision makers across the target organization.
    • Gains an internal coach within the target organization.
    • Collaboratively builds a Partnership Engagement plan both parties agree to with measurable goals around growing the collective business.
    • Maintains strong, trustworthy relationships throughout the organization gaining influence to execute on the plan.
  • Builds and maintains an opportunity pipeline, effectively managing each stage of the pipeline that results in a regular stream of deals, representing additional business for ChemPoint.
    • Leads supplier interactions to advance strategic alliances, attain new business, and leverages relationships to expand partnerships into new product lines, geographies and customer segments.
    • Creates sales strategies and plans to effectively move opportunities forward, keeping related supplier relationship work notes up to date to minimum established standards. This includes regular documentation of supplier interaction, teleconferences and visits.
  • Works closely with Marketing, Sales and the Executive team to move Suppliers through the pipeline.
    • Creates and owns the overall engagement plan and framing of the deal.
    • Orchestrates Supplier interactions with others on the ChemPoint team.
    • Holds Strategy Sessions before a Supplier visit with all involved outlining current situation, critical points to address and optimal outcome.
    • Follows-up with team and supplier, making sure any outstanding action items being addressed.
    • Works closely with relevant Marketing Business Director to make sure the deal being developed is acceptable as it reaches fruition.
  • Mindful of time and company resources:  Organizes time to manage multiple tasks efficiently.  Prudent when it comes to expending company capital.  
  • Possesses insight to the key-drivers in the industry and initiates action with suppliers to uncover needs & product-line opportunities in order to drive toward commitment; negotiates NDA’s, contracts and Product Riders within area of responsibility.
  • Stays abreast of industry & global trends, exhibiting versatility in developing and maintaining business relationships, and clearly and succinctly conveying ideas and concepts via all modes of communication.


  • 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in strategic marketing, management and direct sales, preferably as a Market Analyst, or 7+ years equivalent experience.
  • Comfortable with the most recent sales tools and presentations.
  • Ability to use internal company data systems – cubes to extract relevant numbers in support of supplier conversations.
  • Deep knowledge of ChemPoint systems so is comfortable presenting ChemPoint processes and supporting CRM as a differentiating factor during supplier engagements.
  • Ability to “Frame” the deal
    • Write up deal proposal considering all aspects of the deal, value to ChemPoint, and mitigation steps for any risks.
    • Present deal summary to Exec team, addressing concerns and getting to closure.
  • Stay connected / provide visibility
    • Keep internal pipeline and status system current with supplier interactions.
    • “Manage up” provide a regular deal synopsis stating progress and any relevant insights to manager and executive team.
    • Before trips write brief on purpose, optimal and expected outcomes, after trip, write up trip report.
  • Management skills and leadership qualities.

  • Consultative selling skills.
  • Knowledge of pricing and marketing strategies and proper short- and long-term execution.
  • Thorough knowledge of ChemPoint internal processes and functions of internal teams, IT applications, products, value-added services and industries served.
  • Comfortable using business tools like GoToMeeting, PowerPoint to aid in Supplier presentations.
  • Comfortable engaging Suppliers face to face, on the phone or in a web meeting as appropriate.
